Disabled Showers at Glastonbury
Disabled Showers at Glastonbury
by Stuart

disabled shower

GigLoo were aproached to supply the disabled showers at Glastonbury this year. To date the disabled showers were converted portable toilets which were not comfortable nor provided a good user experience.

GigLoo engineers have spent two years working out the needs for multiple disabilites to ensure we built a solution for the many and not just the few.

The first obstacle we addressed was access, we needed to ensure the entrance was low enough so that a long ramp was not required as this can be as much a hindrance as a help. When installed on level ground the ramp sits at 1:40 as the floor level on entry is only 100mm high. The internal floor has a gradual slope to the rear of the cubicle with no internal steps or trays. It is the full wet room experience.

There are two seats in the pod the main one is in the corner with the shower, the other is in the opposing corner and is there as a drying seat. All of this and more are the reason so many users gave us the amazing feedback they did. One person even commented that the shower was better than the one he had at home.

The showers are booked for many more outings for the rest of the 2017 season, but there are still dates available if you have a function or event.

If you are interested in finding out more about the disabled shower pod from GigLoo or want to get a quote, give us a call on 0330 333 8777 or email bookings@gigloohire.co.uk

Showmans Show

GigLoo is proud to be returning to the Showman’s Show again this year. The show is always a major part of the GigLoo calendar as this is where we launch our new shower trailers and toilet products, with 2017 being no exception we will be bringing multiple new trailers and pods to add to the ever popular range already on offer. Closer to the show we will give you a sneak peak at some of our innovations and model that will be on the show this year.

No secret will be the Fivepeaks range of portable toilets, GigLoo recently became the UK distributors for the brand; which is one of the largest in the world. A visit to the GigLoo stand will allow you to see the reason why so many companies worldwide choose the FivePeaks toilet over other portable solutions.

As GigLoo are showing more and more at the Showman’s Show each year, we are expanding our footprint. For 2017 we have doubled the size of our stand from last year's show and look forward to inviting customers new and old to sit with us in our hospitality area to go over their requirements.

For those that know the GigLoo brand. The Well known four bay shower pod will be back with a few little changes. The four bay pod in 2017 has become the most popular stand alone shower unit at UK festivals and will be making its debut in the southern hemisphere later this year.

This year GigLoo can be found on Lew Spencer Avenue at the end of Avenue B and Avenue C.

GigLoo Hire launch new website
by Stuart

As with all things, change is going to happen. And it just has at GigLoo Hire with the launch of a new website. The site is cleaner and quicker that the site it replaced and will make it easier for customers to find more details they need about the products they want to hire.

As the weeks pass the pages will be updated to include a full listing for each of the products we rent. Along with the descriptions, you will find user guides and cheat sheets, these sheets will tell you everything from set up to fault finding. All the sheets will be easy to read and come with detailed images to help you along. Most of the time a problem is caused by something simple. Make sure you check the basics before calling an engineer.

If there is something you would like to see on the site, let us know. Visit our contact page and fill in your details. It is a simple as that.

Toilet Humour: Infographic

As the great Ade Edmondson said in an episode of Blackadder:

“How lucky you English are to find the toilet so amusing. For us, it is a mundane and functional item. For you it is the basis of an entire culture…”

We thought we’d bring you some light hearted facts about the toilet, perhaps to read next time you’re sat there…

Fabulous Festivals in Hampshire
by Stuart

Festivals in Hampshire celebrate music, food, art, and boats.

Hat Fair Festival is the UK’s longest running festival of outdoor arts. Taking place the first weekend of July in Winchester, it’s a joyous celebration of street entertainment, juggling, music, dancing, and food. Best of all, admission is free.

Blissfields is a music festival focusing on pop, indie, folk, and rock. The Guardian listed it as a “top 50 boutique music festival” and The Telegraph named it in their “top 100 festivals.” Next year’s festival will be 1 and 2 July, 2016, at Vicarage Farm.

Wickham Festival was voted Britain’s Best Festival in 2015 for festivals with under 15,000 people. It’s family-friendly, with lots of activities and entertainment for the youngsters. Next year’s festival will be 4 – 7 August, 2016, in Wickham, just north of Fareham.

Basingstoke Festival features nearly a month of music, dance, street theatre, and parades from mid-June to mid-July. There are crafts stalls and food stalls, children’s activities, art, comedy, and more.

One Love Festival is the UK’s number one reggae festival. It’s located at Croft Farm Waterpark, near Tewksbury, in early autumn.

Lakefest, at Eastnor Castle, started as a music and cider festival, but now emphasizes music over cider and ale. It prides itself on being friendly and fun, but not as overwhelming as some of the larger festivals can be.

The Winchester Short Film Festival runs from 7 – 14 November, 2015. It showcases films under five minutes from directors and actors across the UK.

The Portsmouth International Kite Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016. It attracts kite flyers from around the world.

The Isle of Wight is home to two of Great Britain’s most popular music festivals. The next Isle of Wight Festival will be 9 – 12 June, 2016. Bestival will be 8 – 11 September, 2016. It’s also home to Cowes Week, one of the longest sailing regattas in the world.

The Hampshire Food Festival stretches the entire month of July. It includes local food and drink for sale, cooking classes, pick-your-own fruit, brewery tours, and more.

CarFest South celebrates fast cars, good food, and great music. The fifth annual CarFest South will be 26 – 28 August, 2016, at Laverstoke Park Farm, near Basingstoke where you will find toilets and showers from serviced events in operation, in fact you will find our kit at all the best festivals the UK has to offer.

If you’re hosting a festival in Hampshire or anywhere, contact Serviced Events for luxury event toilets and luxury event showers. We can provide ecologically-friendly facilities for festivals, outdoor weddings, family reunions, and corporate events.

The Best and Worst Toilets at UK Music Festivals
by Stuart

Every now and again some interested party decides to survey UK music festival goers about various aspects of their festival experience. This provides data on the best and worst toilets at UK music festivals.

Going back to 2005, festival goers rated the Reading and Leeds Festivals as having the worst toilets. If you can stand to look, click here for a photograph. Glastonbury and V Festival came out the winners in the best toilets category. In fact, some consider Glastonbury loos to be part of the festival experience. In a 2013 survey, a quarter of the respondents stated that what they missed most were clean toilets. 71% said they would like luxury loos at festivals

A loo tour of festival sites will likely reveal the following types of facilities.

Portable plastic loos

These aren’t bad IF they are treated with respect by users, but as we know that never happens. OK so they lock, thus preventing an inebriated festival reveler from barging in. Sometimes they even flush. But boy do they get hot, and when they  heat up they start to smell.

Slurry Pits with Long Drops

Very basic, consisting of large metal frames placed over a large slurry pit dug in the ground. Each frame contains approximately twenty cubicles. The cubicles have small doors, which don’t lock. They are airy because they have no roof (a mixed blessing if it’s raining!).

“Continental” Toilets

These are the holes in the ground with footprints on either side type. Pleasant enough if you have good balance! Buckets of water and brushes are provided for cleanups.

Urinals

For those who are fortunate enough to be able to relieve themselves standing up, urinals are available in various forms.

In Conclusion

Don’t be deterred from attending a music festival because you are worried about going to the loo. Decent toilet facilities can be found to make the experience not as unpleasant as you may imagine.

The Best Toilets

Serviced Events are expert and highly reputable providers of GigLoo toilets for UK music festivals. These facilities consist of state of the art, eco-friendly and highly efficient toilet units. For more information, please contact us.
